What I have made was a series of five digital drawings. Each drawings, have either a positive message, and/or a personal feeling. Four out of the five drawings contain positive messages to the viewer. It is to encourage, or motivate the viewer in any way. The point of the five drawings, is to make one happy. The only one that does not apply to making one happy, is the first drawing which is "I wish I was a plant", which is a completely personal drawing. For each drawing, I would first determine my message, or motif I would base the drawing around. I then would start out with having a 'x' drawn in a light color to determine the middle. In the middle, I would start with either closed eyes, or open eyes. After the eyes I would draw the face shape. After the face shape, I would draw the basic body shape. Messing around with the color pallet on the ipad app, I would choose a pastel color of my choice and use it as the background. After doing so, I would choose the skin color, then the hair color. For each project, my main goal was to have each of the subjects have a unique appearance. I did so because out of all the people I have seen, or known, we are all different, mentally and physically. I believe the reason my theme projects are important is not for the art style, or quality - but to point out messages to the viewer. Honestly, the saddest thing I can think of is hearing some of the most wonderful, dearest people to me disregard themselves. The messages are suppose to give out a positive message about oneself, hoping that the viewer can relate and maybe even feel better about themselves.
1 what is/are your Medium(s)?
Only used digital painting using the ipads. 2 Why have you chosen this/these mediums and or formats? I chose to do digital paintings because before the theme projects, I have never gotten the chance to draw anything on a technological device. Using the opportunity, I thought it would be fun to use the ipad to make simple artwork. 3 Is there anything unusual about your materials or formats? Usually for art projects containing people, I would have drawn it realistically. This time, I wanted to have a cartoon-y look to it but still follow the rules of proportions (kind of). 4 do you combine media? In these projects, no. 5 what process do you use in making your work? To get the phrases I chose, I run a blog and what ever inspirational quote, or picture came up I would bookmark it. While creating the image, I would browse through the artwork I bookmarked and try to come up with an inspirational/positive message. 6 what images or forms appear often in your work? What do you keep making repeatedly? Something that does pop up quite frequently throughout the projects is nature (trees, plants, stars, etc.) 7 Does your work relate to how or where you live and if so how? I guess in a way they do have to do something with where I live. I live in the woods kind of so there is a lot of greenery, and I do like plants a lot. 8 How does your work relate or contrast to your cultural background? My work doesnt relate to my cultural background. 9 Is your work narative? No. 10 Who are what influenced your work? Nothing really influenced my work. I just wanted to do something that spread positive messages. 11 What inspires you? When ever I get asked this question, I get stuck. In the end I can't think of an answer of what inspires me. 12 Why do you create? I create because I can. Art can be a stress reliever, a hobby, job, etc. I forgot the reason why I create. 13 What do you want to say? About what? There is so much to say but too little of time, and courage. 14 How do the materials used relate to the content, meanings and or themes of your work? Well, the content doesn't really relate to all, it's more towards myself. The repeated, plants and stars, those are the things that make me happy. 15 Are there symbols and images in your work? What do they mean? Plants could symbolize the growth of oneself. The mention of galaxies (stars) symbolizes how bright an individual is really. 16 Are there any particular ART and DESIGN elements that are especially important to your work? Not really sure..... 17 Does emotional, social and /or political content play a part in your work? Emotionally. Honestly, it makes me really sad when the most loveliest people hate on themselves. I wish they see themselves the others see them - as a wonderful human being. 18 How do you want the viewer to respond to your work? A sense of happiness. 19 What themes or issues are important to your work? The issue is is that the 5 themes are very simple. So I plan on doing more than 5 because of how easy all 5 of them were that has something to do with positive messages, emotional ones, or plants. 20 Is there anything abour your work that you feel you need to explain in words - verbally or in writing - so a viewer can better understand your work? What I focused on wasn't the artwork or it's quality, but it's message. I also focused on using many different looks of the subject. Tips for composing - avoid using jargon, cliches, and similies (words like vibe, eye-catching, or it looks like the ocean...) avoid modifiers - really, very, especially, or words like however Be direct and concrete No poetic flights of fancy OUTLINE will be WHAT did you make? (Sorry I have to cut this short, but I will finish this soon) WHY is it important? I believe the reason my theme projects are important is not for the art style, or quality - but to point out messages to the viewer. Honestly, the saddest thing I can think of is hearing some of the most wonderful, dearest people to me disregard themselves. main strength in art/ceramics is – Nothing really. I honestly have a lot of negative traits when it comes to art. I just pick up a pencil and paper and I draw to my hearts content. Though most of the time I have a hard time doing that because I have no ideas what so ever. The one strength my friends have said that I have is drawing proportions of people's faces. Most of my projects are – The most recent ones I have an individual theme. Most of my projects have been portraits of myself or others. Next semester one of my main goals is– To try to finish projects more quickly. Also to start doing weekly blogs, though it's just hard because I'm just not motivated really. Right now, my skill okay. I still have much to learn from and such. Can be measure by the meaning behind the picture. May it be happy, sad, or expressive. By the end of the term I hope it will be (I'm guessing it refers to the skill I chose). I hope that when I am drawing people, it will look more realistic, and hope to have the proportions right. |
